Bachmann receives taxpayer award

The Taxpayer's League of Minnesota recently honored District 52 State Sen. Michele Bachmann, R-Stillwater, for her voting record with its ìBest Friend of the Taxpayerî Award. The award goes to legislators who received 100 points on a series of votes rated by the Taxpayer's League on such things as taxes, the size and scope of government, and free enterprise principles. In all, 10 members of the House of Representatives and 11 members of the Senate received the award. Bachmann received the award for votes to support the governorís ìno new taxesî budget, against a Senate DFL bill to raise taxes $1.3 billion, to repeal the Profile of Learning, and to support tort reform among others. This session Bachmann is sponsoring the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights. TABOR would place a constitutional amendment before the voters in the 2004 general election that would limit future growth in state spending and require voter approval for future tax policy changes.
