A major change is in store for precinct caucus meetings for the DFL in Senate District 52, the party announced this week.Paul Teske, Stillwater, and Greg Miller, Lino Lakes, co-chairs of the Senate District 52 Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, said precinct caucuses and the District 52 DFL Convention will take place Tuesday, March 2, at Mahtomedi Senior High School, 8000 75th St. N., Mahtomedi.
Precinct caucuses for all District 52 area precincts will convene at 7 p.m. at Mahtomedi High School. Immediately following the caucuses will be the Senate District 52 DFL Convention, convening at approximately 8:30 p.m.
All area DFLíers are invited to participate.
Combining the precinct caucuses and the senate district convention into a one evening event is new for area DFLíers this year. This streamlined agenda will allow attendees to participate in a complete process that in the past has taken one entire evening for caucuses and then another full Saturday for the senate district convention.
On the agenda for caucus attendees will be the election of delegates and alternates to the Senate District 52 convention that will follow, and voting in the binding presidential preference poll that will dictate the allocation of Minnesota delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Boston this summer for each Democratic candidate for President of the United States. Platform resolutions for the state party will be considered.
The Senate District 52 Convention will convene at approximately 8:30 PM. Former District 52 Sen. Jane Krentz, May Township, will convene the meeting, and Bill Bresin, Forest Lake, will act as parliamentarian.
On the agenda will be election of officers and board members for the district, election of delegates and alternates to the Fourth and Sixth Congressional Districts and State DFL conventions, endorsement of DFL candidates for House Districts 52A and 52B, as well as speeches and greetings from representatives of the national presidential campaigns and local DFL dignitaries, including District 52B State Rep. Rebecca Otto, Marine on St. Croix.
Senate District 52 encompasses a large portion of northern Washington County, as well as five precincts in eastern Anoka County, including Columbus and Linwood townships.
