Posted: 2/18/04 Rangers score 59 in win over Park
Joe Drennan You win some, you lose some, and this week the Forest Lake girls basketball team did a little of both. The Rangers bounced back from their loss with a 59-33 win over Park (Cottage Grove) Friday night. The Rangers 59 points was the most points scored by any Suburban East Conference team that night, and the 33 points allowed was the least points allowed as well. The Rangers attack on Park (Cottage Grove) was more balanced as Frericks led the team with 14 points, both Brianna McMahon and Christina Odegard scored nine points. Odegard had 10 rebounds in the game, Bender said she could have had 20 if she had more confidence in her abilities. Coach Bender talked of his teams victory, pointing out that some people think his team pass too much and thatís why they donít generally score many points, but he says the team didnít do anything different than they do in any other game and they still scored 59 points. ìA lot of people at times wonder why we donít look to score more, and it seems when you watch us play it seems that we pass too much then we turn the ball over. Why the heck donít they shoot more? We scored 59 points against Park (Cottage Grove) and I donít really think we changed our philosophy much,î Bender said. ìWe want to score, but when you get overmatched by a talented opponent, you donít get your opportunities to score.î Speaking of opportunities, sophomore Stefanie Shogren took advantage of the opportunity she had as she got into her first varsity game of the season and went three for three from the floor for seven points. Shogren got to play after fellow sophomore Michelle Secor who has been suiting up for varsity games felt she didnít earn her spot on the roster for that game and asked to be replaced by another player who was more deserving. The Rangers next game is Friday at Hastings. |
