The Forest Lake girls hockey team came to an end last Thursday when they lost their section playoff game to Duluth Denfeld/Central.

Duluth Denfeld/Central jumped out to an early 3-1 lead by the end of the first period with the lone Rangers goal coming from Anne Woods. Duluth Denfeld/Central added another goal in the second period, then the teams each scored two goals in the third period. Final score 6-3 in favor of Duluth Denfeld/Central.

ìI think we had a slow start,î Rangers head coach Shawn Everson said. ìWe had a really strong third period though where we outplayed them.î

With the season over, Everson was able to look back and decide whether his team accomplished its goals of becoming a better team. Goals that were set for a team that had two juniors, two sophomores, and the rest either eighth or ninth graders.

ìYeah, I think weíre a better team both skill wise as a team and individually,î Everson said. ìI think everybody on the team improved this year.î

The team had its ups and downs over the season. The highlight of the season came over the Christmas holiday when they won the Cambridge Holiday Tournament. The low point came when the teams only goaltender, eighth grader Kim Fredrick, found out her season was over because of a sever econcussion.

Everson says his team wonít be able to say they are too young or inexperienced next year because even their ninth graders will have a full season of play under their belts.

ìExpectations are going to be higher,î Everson said. ìWe have to go in next season with the attitude that weíre not a young team anymore.î
