Sports EditorIt was a close meet, but unfortunately the Forest Lake High School gymnastics team came out on the losing end. The Rangers fell 140.9-137.65 to Stillwater Thursday night.
ìI was disappointed in our meet at Stillwater mostly because I knew it would probably be a close meet and I knew we should have won the meet,î Rangers head coach Nancy Ellias said.
The Rangers did get strong performances from Chrissie Pierce, Rachel Turry, and Brianna Hubbard. Pierce finished third in the vault with a score of 8.975, third on the beam (9.0), and second in the all-around with a score of 35.125. Turry finished second on the bars with her 8.9 score, and Hubbard second on the vault (9.15) and third in the all-around with a score of 34.50.
ìWe didnít have many personal bests, yet there were many good routines,î Ellias said. ìDefinitely as good as our meet against Roseville. The scores did not reflect the good performances.î
The scoring wasnít the only thing that didnít go the Rangers way.
ìWarm-ups went very well,î Ellias said. ìBut you donít win warm-ups.î
Ellias blames the fall off from warm-ups to the actual routines to a lack of concentration. Ellias said at some point the gymnasts lost their focus.
ìWe need to look at the positives,î Ellias said. ìWe had a safe meet with no injuries.î
The Rangers next meet is today, Thursday, against White Bear Lake at 6:30 p.m.
