Joe Drennan Fifth ranked White Bear Lake had their way with the Forest Lake High School boys hockey team Thursday night, but the Rangers bounced back and battled to a 2-2 tie with Mounds View Saturday night. White Bear Lake scored four first period goals, then one goal in each of the final two periods. Rangers goalie Dustin Carlson stopped 27 of the 33 White Bear Lake shots. When the Rangers returned home to the Maroon and Gold Arena Saturday night, they were ready to play. There was no scoring in the second period, but more Rangers penalties allowed Mounds View to outshoot the Rangers 15-3. At 7:59 of the third period Kayle Lewellen put the puck past the Mounds View goalie to tie the game. Three minutes after Lewellenís goal, Blake Woodward passed the puck to Joe Lindeberg who scored to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead with 4:13 remaining in the game. A Rangers slashing penalty with 32 seconds left put Mounds View on the power play. With ten seconds left in the game, Jarrid Lawrence of Mounds View tied the game at two. Two more Rangers penalties in the overtime period allowed Mounds View to get nine shots on Carlson, but he stopped all of them, finishing with 62 saves on the night. The Rangers next game is today, Thursday, at Hastings. |
