County gets metro funds for park land

The Washington County Board of Commissioners has received $500,000 from the Metropolitan Council for land acquisition within Big Marine Park Reserve. At its meeting on Jan. 20, the county board approved an amendment to a Metropolitan Council grant agreement in the amount of $500,000. This grant will provide the county with partial funding to acquire land within the boundaries of the Big Marine Park Reserve. The county must match this funding on a 60/40 basis (Washington County will provide the 60 percent match). Any county funds expended as part of the acquisition effort are eligible for reimbursement in future Metropolitan Council funding cycles.
