Pledge of Allegiance policy OKíd

A Pledge of Allegiance policy is now on the books in ISD 831. The school board on Jan. 5 voted to adopt Policy 542 after the required second reading. The policy was prepared by the boardís policy committee and follows legislative approval of a new state law last year. The policy requires students in the district to recite the pledge to the flag one or more times a week. Exceptions are included. Any student or teacher may decline to participate in recitation of pledge to the flag. Those who choose not to participate will sit or stand quietly and respectfully during the recitation. Students are also required to be respectful of the choice to not recite the pledge.
