Board OKís credit card tax payments

The Washington County Board has authorized the Department of Assessment, Taxpayer Services and Elections to accept credit card payments for property taxes. Minnesota Statute allows the board to authorize credit card payments by resolution, provided that a fee is charged for its use. Washington County has negotiated with US Bank for a convenience fee of 2.5 percent of the transaction amount for payment of property taxes through the use of credit cards. Kevin Corbid, division director, said the resolution simply provides taxpayers with another option for paying property taxes. ìTaxpayers may continue to pay property taxes by mail or in person. Those options are still available,î he said. Corbid said those who choose to pay property taxes with a credit card will be required to do so at a special terminal located in the Washington County Government Center, or they may use their credit card on the county's web site (www.co.washington.mn.us). No face-to-face credit card transactions will take place.
