Forest Lakeís Community Helping Hand store is long known as a public agency that works to help those in need.

Burglars on Jan. 16 hit the Helping Hand store, 408 SW 15th St., seeking to help themselves at the expense of the non-profit organization.

Store officials on Friday, Jan. 17 reported the forced-entry burglary, said Police Chief Clark Quiring this week.

Police said the burglary took place overnight and resulted in the theft of a small amount of cash and minor property damage. The burglary remains under investigation.

Community Helping Hand operates a thrift store and has a food bank that provides assistance to area residents in need.

In other police news, Chief Quiring issued two reminders to city residents this week: Donít park on city streets overnight and donít leave vehicles running and unattended.

On Tuesday, a woman at 511 SW Apartment Lane left her vehicle running and unattended at 5:43 a.m. only to see the vehicle being driven off. Quiring said this stolen auto report turned out on the positive side when the vehicle was later recovered in Columbus Township.

But the chief urged the public to not leave running vehicles unattended.

The chief also reminded the public to remove vehicles from city streets between 2-6 a.m. Police here have issued a number of parking tickets for violation of the 2-6 a.m. ban.

City ordinance prohibits parking on city streets between 2-6 a.m. Police have commenced writing tickets because of public abuse of the street parking regulation.

Police assistance

Officers in Forest Lake were also busy this week providing help to police from White Bear Lake and Wyoming.

Forest Lake officers were called to Wyoming twice on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Police were called to Fairview Lakes Regional Medical Center to assist with a person out of control and also went north to help Wyoming officers with a foot pursuit of a party wanted for an assault. Both calls came in shortly before 7 p.m. on Jan. 17.

Quiring said city officers on Jan. 17 also helped police from White Bear Lake recover a vehicle missing from the Ramsey County city.

Police here were asked by White Bear Lake police to check on the location of the car at Westridge Townhomes where the car was found and held for White Bear Lake officers.
