The Forest Lake VFW baseball team swept a double header with Chisago Monday night winning their first one-run game of the year in extra innings. ìIím really proud of the way the guys played tonightî said Head Coach Jim Borque, ìThey came back after being behind and thatís something we havenít done much this yearî.
The big hit in the second game came in the bottom of the 8th inning by Drew Creminsino. The line shot to the fence in left-center scored Krister Ralles all the way from 1st base as he was stealing on the play.
ìThat one felt goodî said Creminsino after the walk-off double, and it also felt good for the team to win their first close game.
An outstanding pitching performance was also turned in by Neil Polglase who went the distance for the win. Polglase moved the ball around well and had command of the game as long as he was near the strike zone.
In the first game, the Rangers handled Chisago easily, winning 12-0 behind the strong arm of Solomon Thompson. Thompson had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the sixth inning but lost it on a solid hit to right-center.
ìMy arm feels goodî said Thompson, who has been a real workhorse for the team this year.
Brett Johnson had his first three-hit game of the year for the Rangers, leading a strong team hitting attack.
In league action earlier in the week, the VFW team dropped two games to teams they had previously beaten, Fridley and Cambridge.
ìThose two games hurt us in the standings but I think we learned from themî said coach Borque, ìWe started our second season on Monday night and I really like the team that showed upî.
The teamís record now stands at 6-6 in league play and 12-10 overall.
The Rangerís next league games are on Monday night against Blaine and Wednesday night against Armstrong. Both games are on the road.
