HRA explains rental assistance steps
The Washington County Housing and Redevelopment Authority has announced it intends to open its waiting list for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. The HRA has received funding from the federal government to provide rental assistance for up to 90 income-qualified families. ìFor the first time in several years, the Authority is able to open its waiting lists so that qualifying families may be able to receive a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher,î said Barbara Dacy, executive director of the HRA. ìThe Section 8 voucher program enables families to pay 30 percent to 40 percent of their income for rent, with the federal government paying the remainder of the gross rent.î Households must meet certain income restrictions before qualifying for the program, and may select housing of their choice in neighborhoods of their choice in Washington County. The subsidy stays with the family in a subsequent move, assuming all requirements of the program are met. To request an application, call 651-209-8766 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. June 16-18 and leave name and address on the voice mail system.
