After 437 years, William Shakespeareís best friend is still alive.Internationally acclaimed actor Alfred A.E. Wolfram will perform his one-man show ìThe Shakespeare Manî at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 8 as part of the annual summer Arts in the Park series at Lakeside Memorial Park in Forest Lake.
Native Minnesotan Al Wolfram has been touring with ìThe Shakespeare Manî since 1992. Through the eyes of William Shakespeareís fictionalized best friend, audiences will revisit the life and times of the famed writer. The audience becomes part of the show that is part comedy, part drama. One may be given a chance to attend a 16th century school, another may go on a date to the original Globe Theater. Some may even perform on the most hallowed of stages.
Wolfram is not a newcomer to one-man shows. His first solo performance was as Clarence Darrow in 1979. From 1990 to 1993 he toured the U.S. and Great Britain in a one-man play entitled A Seed of Peace. At the Edinburgh Fringe Festival he was nominated for the prestigious ìScotsmanís First Award.î A later production of A Seed of Peace, produced for cable TV, was nominated for a national Cable ACE Award.
Wolfram is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival for 16 years where he setóand retainsóa Guiness World Record. He has been seen on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Jenny Jones Show, Entertainment Tonight, Harry Connick Jr.ís Valentine Special and Japanís largest game show, among other programs. He also has been featured in The Star magazine and Scotlandís Evening Standard.
He spent two years performing Arts in the Park and directed A Rehearsal for Murder at the Lakeshore Playerís Theatre.
When not performing or directing, Wolfram makes his home in North St. Paul with his wife of 31 years who also is his costume designer.
