This summer, area youth just might be able to banish the phrase ìMom, Iím boredî from their collective vocabulary.

Forest Lake Community Educationís Youth Development and Youth Enrichment departments have crafted a full slate of summertime activities for youth kindergarten through twelfth grade.

ìThis is very much more than usual,î said Youth Development Coordinator Kathy Bystrom of this summerís offerings.

ìWe are particularly excited about a couple of thingsóMasquerís theater camp and Camp Invention,î she said.

Forest Lake High School graduates Jenny Wheatley and Laura Paisley are giving back to their community via summer programs. Wheatley, who is majoring in visual art and theater at Augsburg College in Minneapolis will lead a creative masks program in June, offer a drawing and painting class in July and a young illustrators program and art camp in August.

Paisley, who is studying dance in New York will offer workshops on the basics of dance and ballet in June.

In offering the programming, Community Education partnered with community businesses and groups as well as the Chain of Lakes YMCA.

ìThe message probably is you donít need to travel out of town to have a great experience,î Bystrom said. ìWeíve got a lot of wonderful programming opportunities right here in our own community.î
