Vandalism incidents marred the Forest Lake holiday weekend, but in one case two 10-year-old boys were taken into custody.

At 5 p.m. Sunday, police were called to investigate a report of criminal damage to property and theft after the two boys were detained near the ambulance garage at the former District Memorial Hospital building. Police were called after two vehicles in the parking lot at Grace Alliance Church, 432 SE 11th Ave., had been spray painted.

Upon investigation, police learned that the two boys admitted to other crimes. The boys allegedly stole two cans of paint from Ace Hardware, walkie-talkies from Radio Shack and cigarette lighters and batteries from the Big Dollar Store, said Chief of Police Clark Quiring.

The boys were released to the custody of their parents.

Authorities are also investigating vandalism at Lakeside Memorial Park. On May 29, police received a report that a park sign had been knocked down and a portable toilet tipped over.

On May 30, police received a report that a portable toilet near Willow Point, 8408 North Shore Trail N., had been pushed into the lake.
