Carlson, Mondale endorse Otto
Former Republican Gov. Arne Carlson of Forest Lake and former Vice President Walter Mondale, a Democrat, last week joined to publicly endorse the reelection of District 52B Rep. Rebecca Otto, DFL-May Township. ìWe live in a time when the voices of balance, reason and bi-partisanship we once took for granted in Minnesota are coming under increasing attack,î the two said in a joint statement. ìAt risk is our Minnesota way of life. We feel itís important to support Rep Otto. Sheís a moderate leader we both agree can truly help Minnesota to find its balance again.î Otto, a Democrat whose family ancestor founded the Minnesota Republican Party, said she was ìdeeply honoredî by the support. ìIím in line with Gov. Carlson on fiscal policy and Vice President Mondale on the politics of inclusion,î Otto said. ìAs a Democrat in a Republican district, I tend to hug the center instead of catering to an extreme, and I think thatís the path we need to take back to a state that is a leader.î
