Posted: 6/2/04 Rangers have one last tune up before sections
Joe Drennan The Forest Lake High School baseball team ended their regular season last Tuesday with a makeup game at Woodbury. When the two teams met earlier in the season, the Rangers defeated Woodbury 5-3, but this time around Woodbury was the winner. The Rangers were leading 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when a fielding error put a Woodbury runner on base. Later in the inning, Steve McKeown of Woodbury hit a two run home run to tie the game and send it into extra innings. ìWe gave up three home runs all year,î Raabe said. ìOne of those home runs just happened to be in this game.î In the bottom of the ninth inning, McKeown hit a run-scoring single to win the game. ìIf we donít have that error, we win by a run,î Rangers head coach Brian Raabe said. ìOne thing in sports is there isnít a lot of moral victories. You either win or lose.î Zach Guttormson pitched 61/3 innings for the Rangers with the other highlight being a Steve Carlisle home run. ìSteveís home run was probably the longest home run that I have seen hit by a high school kid,î Raabe said. ìIt was fun to watch.î With the regular season now over, the Rangers began their Section 7AA play Tuesday against Cambridge-Isanti. ìThe good part about this is we go to the playoffs and weíre 0-0 and if we play well weíve got a chance to go far,î Raabe said. ìWeíve beat some good teams this season so we know weíre capable of doing well.î |
