Kindergarten Plus, a program which offers full day every day kindergarten to students in the ISD 831 school district for a fee, will be offered to local families next year.

The option was discussed at the March 1 school board meeting.

Costs for attending Kindergarten Plus is $2400 annually with payments made two, four or nine times a year, depending on parentsí preference.

Costs will vary depending on income. Families who receive reduced price lunches will pay $1400 a year. Families who qualify for free lunch will pay just $400 annually.

Kindergarten Plus is just an option. Parents can choose to send their child to all day every other day kindergarten at no cost.

ìIt just saddens me that we canít offer this (Kindergarten Plus) to every child in the district,î school board member Keith Dunham said.

Superintendent Lynn Steenblock said the intent was to offer parents a variety of options. Class sizes for Kindergarten Plus, he said, will be on par with regular kindergarten classesóabout 18 students.

Kindergarten round up meetings for children who will be 5-years-old by September 1 will begin in April and wrap up in May.
