Meister's coffee gang turns posse

Bruce Swenson, 64, left, and Harvey Lindgren, 66, of Scandia don't head up to Meister's in Scandia every afternoon, along with a dozen other Scandia elders, and plan on chasing criminals but that's exactly what they did at roughly 1:30 p.m. Monday. Swenson, Lindgren and Ernie Kertzscher, 64, found themselves in a car chase northbound on Olinda Trail after members of the coffee crew witnessed four youths wearing masks and handkerchiefs over their faces enter the newly remodeled Meister's Bar and Grill cut down and leave with a large neon Corona beer sign that was hanging in the window. "Some thought they might be electricians, since there is so much work going on around here, but the masks sort of gave them away," said Swenson. Swenson called 911 and followed the youths in one vehicle while Lindgren and Kertzscher followed in another as the thieves sped away in a grey four-door sedan. According to Swenson, the youths were traveling well over 90 mph during the chase. The 911 call led Sheriff's deputies to the home of one of the offenders near Lindstrom, where the juveniles were eventually apprehended. The case is under further investigation.
