School board meeting Monday will decide ice arena fate
Next Monday night could be a make or break night for the future of the Maroon and Gold Ice Arena in Forest Lake. At 6 p.m., the ISD 831 Board of Education will meet in special session in the media center at Forest Lake High School, 6101 Scandia Trail N., to review its future options for the school-owned and again arena. During the past three weeks, district administration, consultants and representatives of the skating community have been meeting to review the possible use of a mat system to replace the current refrigeration system used to make ice. Details of that system and funding methods from the citizens will be reviewed during the special. In addition to the possible use of a mat system, the school has been weighing options that include closing the facility or attempting to open the arena again next fall and make needed repairs and upgrades as needed. Because of budget concerns, the latter option may pose financial problems for the school district in the 2004-2005 fiscal year.
