Fundraiser benefits local family

Afundraiser for Makayla Ellen Glyer is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at the American Legion Post 225.

The spaghetti dinner will be served 6-8 p.m. for $10 per plate. A disc jockey, Dr. Fuzz, will play songs beginning at 9 p.m. The event also includes a silent auction.

Makayla was born Sept. 24, 2003, weighing 7 lbs., 4 oz to Brooke and Brad Glyer.

She was born with a very rare birth defect called Larynx-Trachea-Esophagus Cleft (L.T.E.). Although Makayla was born full term via cesarean section, the doctors at Fairview Regional Medical Center in Wyoming discovered there was a problem and rushed her down via ambulance to Fairview Riverside Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit.

Makayla has undergone many procedures and seven major surgeries. She has been in Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit and Fairview Childrenís ICU since she was born. Makayla has been at home for a total of 11 days with needs of 24-hour care. She is back in the Fairview Childrens ICU.

The financial impact as a result from this on-going fight for Makayla is extreme. The fundraiser is an effort to raise money to help Makaylaís family with financial expenses.

Donations in Makaylaís name can be made at Lakes Area Bank in Forest Lake or Lindstrom. For more information, go to www.caringbridge.org/mn/makaylaglyer/.
