Posted: 3/3/04 Boys basketball headed into final stretch of season
Joe Drennan Mounds View and Woodbury were too much for the Forest Lake boys basketball team this week. In Tuesdayís game against Mounds View, the Rangers were only down by four points at the half with the score 39-35. Mounds View came roaring out of the halftime break scoring 17 third quarter points while holding the Rangers to 11. Mounds View added 16 more points to their score in the fourth quarter, again holding the Rangers to only 11 points. ìWe played well in the first half and were close, but in the second half it was tough to keep up with them,î Rangers head coach Chuck Gunderson said. Junior Noah Lawson led the Rangers in scoring with 19 points, followed by Nate Robertsonís 11 points. Steve Korthals scored eight points, while Tom Frericks and Collin Authier each had seven points. Woodbury proved to be just as difficult as they defeated the Rangers three nights later. The Rangers were again down by four points at halftime, down 30-26. Woodbury added 17 points in the third quarter while holding the Rangers to only six points. The fourth quarter was a draw as both teams scored 19. ìWe shot very well in the first half and it was a close game, but again in the second half they pulled away from us, ì Gunderson said. ìIn both games we were doing things we needed to do though.î Authier was the top scorer for the Rangers with 17 points in their 66-51 loss to Woodbury. Frericks added 16 points of his own, followed by Korthalsís eight, and Robertsonís seven points. ìCollin really played well in both games,î Gunderson said. ìDown at Mounds View he took some leadership and at Woodbury he had a good game offensively and defensivley.î The Rangers close out the regular season with their game Friday night against Roseville. |
