Glenn Rehbein, 65, dies in Phoenix.

Glenn Rehbein, founder and chairman of Glenn Rehbein Cos. died Thursday, Feb. 26 in Phoenix after an all terrain vehicle accident.

Rehbein was riding an all terrain vehicle in a desert area just outside of Phoenix with a group of people when the accident occurred.

Rehbein was heavily involved in the community. At Rice Creek Covenant Church he was known as the ěcandymanî because he always had pockets full of candy to share. The National Sports Center in Blaine was also a cause Rehbein supported.

In 1956, Rehbein married Myrna Lynne Doak on Nov. 2. That same year he started his own business, Lino Sod Company in Lino Lakes. After marrying, Rehbein and his new wife started a family and eventually raised four kids, Robyn, Mark, Bart, and Dirk.

Rehbein later expanded his business and renamed it Glenn Rehbein Excavating. Rehbeinís company has worked on many projects in the Twin Cities area, and helped construct the Troy Burne Golf Club in Blaine that Rehbein was owner of. Glenn Rehbein Excavating is also one of the groups that is working on rebuilding the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant in Arden Hills as well as the upper landing housing project in downtown St. Paul.

Funeral details

A funeral service is today, Thursday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at North Heights Lutheran Church, 1700 W. Hwy 96, Arden Hills, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Urban Ventures or Chain of Lakes YMCA.

Glenn is preceded in death by his father Raymond Rehbein. He is survived by his wife Myrna; children Robyn, Scottsdale, AZ, Bart (Diana), Centerville, Dirk (Mona), Waddell, AZ, Mark (Tammy), Lino Lakes; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother Dorothy, Lino Lakes; brother Clyde (Arlene), Shoreview; sister Cheryl (Mike) Winge, Lino Lakes; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
