Posted: 3/5/04 Forest Lake competitors move on at state
Joe Drennan Forest Lake High School has competitors in both the boys swimming and diving and wrestling state meets this weekend. The swimming and diving meet kicked off Thursday wit the diving prelims and semis where Dillon Hudulla, Brian Welch, and Sam Chausee of Forest Lake competed. After the first five dives, Chausee was in 16th place, Welch 15, and Hudulla 13th advancing them all to the semis where the field of 32 was cut down to 20. After three more dives, Chausee fell one spot to 17th with a score of 224.40. Welch moved up to 14th place with a score of 240.90, and Hudulla remained in 13th place with 241.30 points. Welch and Hudulla made the cut to move onto Saturdays finals. In wrestling, Johnny Denny and Jimmy Underdahl have both advanced to the semis in their respective weight classes. Denny, 135lbs weight class, began the meet with a first round victory over Alex Thurston of St. Paul Highland Park by technical fall. Denny then went on to defeat Jeff Gleason of Apple Valley by a score of 8-5. Underdahl, 140 lbs. weight class opened things up with a first round victory over Matt Hedlund of St. Paul Como Park. Underdahl won the match by a pin at the 0:57 mark. In the quarterfinals, Underdahl defeated Andy Leisen by a score of 8-1. Both Denny and Underdahl continue their quest for an individual state title Friday evening. |
