News EditorWhat has been Forest Lakeís only self-service car wash is about to take on some new services.
Come mid-summer, when an expansion project is concluded, Forest Lake Car Wash, 292 SW 12th St., will sport three touchless automatic car wash bays plus four self-service bays.
April saw the start of a major expansion program at the car wash under the new ownership of Scott Zahnow and his father, Charles, of Somerset, WI. They purchased the business last September from brothers Mike and Mark Nelson.
Work has now commenced on the facility that will add just over 2400 square feet of space. The car wash on the corner of SW 12th St. and 3rd Ave. had six self-service bays prior to the expansion.
ìWe want to expand our business,î Scott Zahnow said. ìThis (Forest Lake) looks like an area for expansion.î
Forest Lake is the fourth car-wash location for the owners. They run car washes now in Somerset and St. Croix Falls. Along with Forest Lake, the owners have a wash under construction in New Richmond, WI.
The move to Forest Lake involves a major commitment, Zahnow said. The owners will invest a total of $1.2 million in the acquisition and expansion effort, he added.
Zahnow said the owners hope to be open for business by late July or Aug. 1 at the latest.
Along with the new touchless automatic system, new equipment will be added for the self-service bays. The new system will offer a four-minute wash for $2. Additional 30 seconds of wash time can be purchased for 25 cents.
The automatic system will offer four levels of service ranging from a low of $6 to a top-grade car wash of $10.
A car wash employee will be hired to staff the new facility.
