Boys track finishes second at Edina Invite

The Forest Lake High School boys track team had their best finish of the season when they finished second at the Edina Invitational Friday.

Edina won the meet with a score of 105 and the Rangers were close behind with a score of 96. Jefferson and Minneapolis Southwest were the other two schools at the meet.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Kelly Weise, Brandon Yetter, Zach Clark and Ben Fick won the relay with a time of 8:51. Three of the four runners set personal best times in the race.

Lorin Skoglund had a big day, finishing the 400-meter race with a time of 51.54, second in the 100-yard race with a time of 11.7, and third in the 200-meter race with a time of 23.7.
The sprint medley team placed second, the 4x400-meter team placed second, and the 4x100-meter team placed second.

ìWeíre really doing a nice job in terms of team balance and we scored in almost every event which I think is important,î Rangers boys track and field coach Paul Kendrick said.
The Rangers finished first, fifth and sixth in the shot put. Derek Peterson finished first with a throw of 51 feet, 4 inches.

Brandon Neujahr finished second in the triple jump followed by Brian Malony who finished third and Aaron Anderson who finished fourth.

ìThe team continues to work hard, and for a young team weíre really seeing tremendous improvements,î Kendrick said.

Zach Clark and Jamison Hull had personal best times in the 3200-meter race. Clark finished with a time of 10:42 and Clark 10:48.

Freshman Matt Hansmen finished second in the high jump and second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.

ìHeís had some excellent performances of late,î Kendrick said.

Pole vaulting coach Tom Hipkins believes the pole vaulters are ready to break out any time now. Sophomore Patrick Taylor and Alex Boreum are both over 11 feet now and pushing 12 in practice.

The Rangers next meet is a sophomore meet Tuesday at Hastings at 3:15 p.m.
