Staff WriterWhen the residents along East Rondau/Freeman Drive petitioned for road improvements there was much discussion.
Residents of Pine St. in Columbus Township and Lino Lakes put together a petition to pave Pine St. on both the Columbus side and Lino Lakes side.
For Columbus, the residents want the portion of road from 4th St. to the Lino Lakes border paved.
ìItís just about 90-percent bad now and all we need is a little more rain to make it completely bad,î Joe Torgerson of Columbus said. ìI think itís a true safety issue at this point and this road gets used probably more than any other road in Columbus.î
Torgerson said the petitioners want to keep the petition open to ìall who want to join inî on the project who havenít already been contacted.
ìI would like all those [surrounding] roads to be considered because on a cost per lot, maybe the cost becomes more reasonable with more people involved,î board member Renae Fry said.ìThis way we donít have pockets of gravel road here and there.î
The board accepted the petition and will talk with Lino Lakes to decide the best way to have a neighborhood meeting to review about the issue.
Water Update
Town engineer Larry Bohrer said the first step in deciding if a designated spot for a pilot well for water is suitable, a wetland delineation needs to be done.
Bohrer suggested one company that he has dealt with in the past for the delineation. The board is going to look into a comparison bid. After the board has both bids they then go with the lower bidder.
The other issue regarding the pilot well is the Clear Channel billboard on the parcel of land the township plans to use. Bohrer has tried to contact Tom McCarver of Clear Channel to work out an agreement regarding an easement on the property for the maintenance of the billboard.
Racetrack update
The North Metro Harness Initiative requested an extension of their application. The reason for the request was because they would not have the approvals needed from the Rice Creek Watershed District in time to provide the planning commission the information in a timely manner.
The North Metro Harness Initiative is now scheduled to go before the township planning commission on June 16.
Hay Days
The 2004 Sno Barons Snowmobile Club Hay Days is Sept. 10-11 at the usual 13824 Lake Drive. The board approved resolutions for the Sno Barons to receive a liquor license and a gambling license for pulltabs.
