Bicycle shop owner Dick Reinhardt was of the belief in a town like Forest Lake most anyone could be trusted.

Not any longer, the owner of Trail Cycle will tell you. Not after the theft of a bicycle this week.

Reinhardt was working in his store at 836 S. Lake St. in the Lake Shoppes on Sunday when a man came in and asked to check out a mountain bike valued at $700.

The man, described as a white male in his early 40s, was granted permission to take a test ride. According to Forest Lake Police Departments reports, the store owner saw the man riding in the shopping center parking lot and resumed his work.

Ten minutes later when the man had not returned, police were called. Officers responding to the call were not able to locate the man nor the bicycle.

Stolen was Fuji Tahoe 19-inch 27-speed mountain bike.

In other Forest Lake police department reports, officers here are:

ļInvestigating a burglary at a model home at 22008 Elston Ave. N. where a door to the home was kicked in. A closet door inside the home was also damaged. Although nothing appeared missing, the builder, Accent Homes, listed property damage at $750.

ļInvestigating a burglary at Recreation Leisure Time, 1910 S. Lake St. on Monday where locks to a storage container were cut and items were taken. Police said Tuesday they were awaiting a list of items stolen, but said two soft-sided spa tubs were believed missing.
