Police liaison officers will return

ISD 831 and the city of Forest Lake Police Department have approved terms of police liaison officer joint powers service agreements for two more years. The school board on May 3 ratified the agreements for the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 school years. The police department provides two officers who are assigned to the high school and Southwest and Century junior high schools. Under the agreement, the school district assumes the full cost of the high school police liaison at $78,750. The position is essentially full-time with summer school duties falling to the officer. For the junior high school liaison, the school district assumes $59,162 or nine months of the position cost while the city picks up the final three months or $19,597 of the full $78,750 cost. In approving the agreements, the board strongly endorsed the program and the two officers currently assigned as liaisons, Jake Ayers and Sean Lafferty.
