Joe Drennan Monday was a busy day for the Forest Lake High School boys golf team as they had three different squads competing. One varsity squad was golfing at the Hastings Invitational, another at the Purple Hawk Invitational, and a JV squad at Stillwater. The squad at the Hastings Invitational finished 11th out of 19 teams with a team score of 339. Apple Valley won the invite with a team score of 308. Jacob Svenkenson led the Forest Lake team with a score of 78. ìFor this group of golfers that we have, thatís really a good score,î Forest Lake boys golf coach Roger Cheyne said. ìThe trick is to get more than one golfer to do that.î Other Forest Lake scores that counted at the Hastings Invitational were Noah Lawsonís 86, Brad Langeís 86, and freshman Kyle Lewisí 89. Parker Pemberton of Apple Valley had the best individual score of the day with a 70. At the Purple Hawk Invitational, Forest Lake had a team score of 356 with Svenkensonís twin brother Adam recording the lowest score for Forest Lake with a 79. ìThe Svenkensons played the best golf of the day for us,î Cheyne said. Dan Rice followed Svenkenson with a 90, then Nick Hafele who shot a 93 and Ben Johnson who shot a 94. At the JV outing in Stillwater, Forest Lake finished in a tie for seventh place out of the eight team field. Evan Dahl led the team with a 42, followed by Chad Bermelís 43, and Joe Teltonís 49. Earlier in the week the varsity squad tied for sixth out of eight teams at Park (Cottage Groveís) Suburban East Conference tournament. Hafele led Forest Lake with a 39, followed by Lawson who shot a 40. Larson. Lange and Mark Moberg all shot 41. ìWe had the consistency in our scores but they werenít low enough,î Cheyne said. The Rangers next outing is Monday at the Hillcrest Invitational. |
