The Forest Lake High School girls golf team may have had home course advantage at the Forest Lake Invite at Forest Hills Golf Course Monday, but the wind helped even out the playing field. Forest Lake finished seventh out of 21 teams.

Sarah Berger had the lowest score for Forest Lake with an 87. Bergerís score was also good enough for third place.

ìThatís a good showing,î Forest Lake girls golf coach Bill Loushine said. ìWith 21 teams and over 110 golfers for her to finish third was very good.î

Ashley Weeda had the next best score for Forest Lake with a 102, followed by Rachel Martinís 105 and Jenna Leeís 108.

ìObviously Iíd like to get those scores down into the high 90s,î Loushine said. ìOur goal is to try to come in under 400 as a team.î

White Bear Lake won the Forest Lake Invitational with a 378. Erica McKenzie of Hastings was the medalist with a score of 79.

ìI have seen improvements in all the girls so far this season,î Loushine said. ìTheyíve each had their little glimmers in nine hole matches so far. Jenna has had a couple good nine hole scores, and Ashley has been probably the most consistent with her score.î

In the next week, Forest Lake has four outings in four days.

ìItís a compacted season,î Loushine said. ìWe play a lot of golf in a short time with a lot of 18 hole matches.î

With a busy week ahead of them, Loushine says he will not do as much work on the course where the girls would have to walk, but stay at the range and work on swings.

ìWeíll work on the girlsí swings this week on the off days because they have enough to think about,î Loushine said. ìThey have homework and everything else and it wears on them mentally.î

Forest Lakeís next outing is Monday at the Hillcrest Invitational.
