Posted: 5/5/04 Rangers win 1 of 3 one-run games at Edina Invitational
Joe Drennan The Edina Invitational was a tournament of one-run games for the Forest Lake High School softball team. The Rangers beat Park Center 2-1 in extra innings, but fell to Minnetonka 3-2 and Holy Angels 6-5. ìWe had three very good games all by one run and either team could have won either of them,î Rangers head coach Sue Stennes-Rogness said. In the 2-1 victory over Park Center the game went into extra innings. The tournament was being played under international rules which means a runner starts on second base. Savannah Svendsen was the base runner for the Rangers. Courtney Marr advanced Svendsen to third with a sacrifice hit. Katie Wightman grounded out, but Svendsen scored what turned out to be the winning run. The Rangers hosted Park (Cottage Grove) Monday and lost 9-3. ìPark is a very good team and they are in first place in the conference for a reason,î Stennes-Rogness said. ìThey have excellent pitching and people recognize their strength.î The Rangers also lost to Stillwater last Wednesday by a score of 7-4. Despite the 4 losses in the five games this week, the Rangers did have several bright sports. Amanda Lindholme was hitting .333 going into the game against Park (Cottage Grove) and still hitting over 300. Lindsey Lingle went 5-16 in the five games with a double and a triple among those five hits. Cortney Marr went 7-16 in the five game stretch. The Rangers next game is tonight against White Bear Lake at 7 p.m. under the lights. |
