22 headed to the section swim meet

The Forest Lake High School girls swimming and diving team is sending 22 girls to this weekís section 7AA meet at Northdale Junior High.

Divers Brianna Hubbard, Katie Clark, Janel Duffy and Erin Eagen will try to advance to the state meet. Hubbard was a state participant last year.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Frances VanSloun and Carrie Peterson qualified for the section meet with times of 2:15.96 for VanSloun and 2:18.09 for Peterson.

VanSloun and Peterson along with Ann Husfeldt and Becky Zierke will be swimming in the 500-yard freestyle. VanSloun qualified with a time of 5:59.93, Peterson with a 6:11.42, Zierke with a 6:15.19 and Husfeldt with a 6:11.36.

Cassie Gerlach, Amanda Nelson, Rachel Merrier, Hannah McKenzie all qualified for the 50-yard freestyle. Gerlach qualified with a time of 27.39, Nelson and Merrier with a 25.39 and McKenzie with a 28.5.

Nelsonís qualifying time of 1:00.3 in the 100-yard butterfly could be the first step in another state meet appearance. Also qualifying for the section meet in the 100-yard butterfly are Lindsey Quale with a time of 1:15.41, Darian Kaiser with a time of 1:15.40 and Abbey Eagen with a time of 1:17.96.

Mary Walters and Kelly Haglund will try to advance to the state meet after qualifying for the section meet in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 1:00.37 for Walters and 1:03.73 for Haglund.

Walters along with Allison Garrity qualified for the 100-yard backstroke. Walters qualified for the section meet with a time of 1:07.08 and Garrity with a time of 1:11.87.

The final event that the Rangers have swimmers qualified for the section meet is the 100-yard breaststroke. Nicole Duff qualified with a time of 1:20.28, Alissa Moberg did as well with a time of 1:22.59, Heidi Merrier with a time of 1:20.67 and Kirsten Ericson with a time of 1:20.81.

The section 7AA meet begins today, Thursday, at 6 p.m. with the swimming prelims, continues Friday with the diving prelims at 6 p.m. and ends Saturday with the finals that start at noon. All three days of the section meet will be held at Northdale Junior High.
