Two Forest Lake police officers on Wednesday, Oct. 27 pulled a Roseville man from the cold water of Forest Lake after the man attempted to take his own life.

The man, 57, had slashed both wrists three times and waded into the water of Second Lake in an attempt to commit suicide, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said.

Sgt. Ron Hanegraaf and patrol officer Dave Pasicznyk responded to 867 SE 19th St. in the bay area of Forest Lake at 7:44 a.m. after a citizen called to report the man in the water. The two officers used the homeowner's paddleboat to go out after the man.

Sgt. Hanegraaf went into the cold water to help pull the fully-clothed Roseville man to the boat and safety. The man was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Police said the man had recently lost his job.

Quiring said the Roseville man drove to Forest Lake in the early-morning hours Oct. 27, slashed his wrists and entered the water to die.

Quiring said the cold water may have kept the man from bleeding to death.

Relatives of the man were notified of the incident in Forest Lake, Quiring said.
