County OKís FL recycling funds

Washington County is again offering incentives to encourage and support curbside recycling by providing grant money for that purpose. On Oct. 26, the Washington County Board approved the distribution of $68,042.80 to the city of Forest Lake for the 2004-2005 grant cycle. Funding for these grants is made available from the county environmental charge and two state grants: Select Committee on Recycling and the Environment and Local Recycling Development Grant. Money for the SCORE grant is generated by the solid waste management tax on solid waste collection. Monies for the LRDG grant are generated by a surcharge on solid waste disposed in metropolitan landfills. All cities and townships in Washington County are eligible to receive grant funds for curbside recycling programs.
