Wyoming studies police reserve program

Much of the discussion at the Wyoming City Council meeting Monday resulted in tabled action until later meetings.

Police Chief Tony Pangal proposed keeping one of the older squads to be used as a vehicle for a proposed reserve program.

Sale of the other squad will help cover the lease payments on the departmentís two new squad cars. Payments are not due until cars are delivered.

At the recommendation of officer Lance Beardsley, council approved the purchase of three new shotguns for the police squads.

Pangal brought Beardsleyís recommendation to the council and also reported a possible buyer for the two older shotguns at about $265 each.

A decision was postponed about establishment of the reserve police program until Pangal brings a more detailed plan to council.

Questions to be answered include: Who approves candidates and how will they be used?

Pangal will bring a more detailed report to the next meeting, so proposals can be studied before the Truth in Taxation hearing, Nov. 29.

Council authorized the first partial payment to the contractor, for the trunk watermain extension along Viking Blvd. in the amount of $377,168.49.
