Dennis Hegberg has won another four-year term on the Washington County Board of Commissioners and in impressive fashion.With 19 of 19 District 1 precincts reported, Hegberg easily defeated Marc Hugunin of Grant by a 13,656 to 9234 margin. Hegbergís lead was 59.4 percent to 40.1 percent.
ìObviously, Forest Lake wasnít ready for a change,î Hegberg said early Wednesday morning. He credited his experience and district knowledge as key factors in his victory.
The Forest Lake resident said he was honored by the vote of confidence and the strong showing in Forest Lake. In the five local precincts, Hegberg beat Hugunin 6017-2199,
In the Anoka County Board District 6 contest, incumbent Rhonda Sivarajah easily defeated Dot Heifort, 14,343-5295. The district serves Columbus and Linwood townships.
In the two area contests for the Minnesota House of Representatives, two Republican incumbents have fought off their DFL challengers.
District 52A Rep. Ray Vandeveer of Forest Lake defeated Rob Rapheal of Scandia. With all 12 precincts reported, Vandeveer topped his challenger 13,531 to 9238.
ìWe worked hard as we always do,î Vandeveer said. In his new term, he pledged to continue working for good roads and good schools.
In House District 17B in Chisago County, Rep. Pete Nelson, R-Lindstrom, was leading DFL challenger Jeremy Kalin with 18 of 20 precincts reported. Nelson, running for his second term in the House, was leading Kalin with 52.6 percent of the vote to Kalinís 44 percent and third-party candidate P.J. Richardsonís 3.3 percent. Nelson was in front with 12,151 votes while Kalin was second with 10,171 votes. Richardson had 747.
