News EditorDonít park on city of Forest Lake streets overnight, Chief of Police Clark Quiring warned this week.
With the onset of winter coming, Quiring said city police are stepping up their enforcement of the overnight parking prohibition. No parking is allowed on city streets between 2-6 a.m. at any time.
Police may cut city residents some slack during the warm-weather months, but with winter coming, the local ordinance is now being enforced to help keep vehicles off streets that need to be plowed following a snow fall.
Last weekend saw police write 27 tickets, Quiring said. The parking tickets were issued Saturday and Sunday nights throughout the city, he said.
An overnight parking violation carries a $23 fine.
All tickets can be paid over the counter at the Forest Lake Police Department, 210 N. Lake St., during regular office hours 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The local ordinance has been in place for more than two decades as a police crime-fighting tool and a way to keep vehicles off streets when snowplow crews from the city need to do their jobs, the police said.
