Joe Drennan The successful season of the Forest Lake High School boys cross country team continued to roll on when the team placed fourth out of 11 teams at the Blaine Invitational last Thursday. Zach Clark (17:22), Ben Fick (17:34), Ben Brodin (18:23) and Shea Glewwe (18:51) all set personal records in the race. Once again Matt Mauch led the Rangers with a time of 17:17 with Clark, Fick, Kelly Weise (18:03) and Brodin rounding out the top five Rangers finishers. Senior captain Aaron Moen also finished with a time of 18:27. "We won a tie breaker with Tartan for fourth place because our sixth guy (Moen) beat their sixth guy," Rangers head coach Bill McElrath said. "The importance of every guy counts really hit home for us this race. In the junior high race, the pack of Andrew Orth (6:18), Nathan Moen (6:19) Jake Riehle (6:20), Nick Kelly (6:34), Tj Antisdel (6:42) took the top five positions, giving the Rangers a first place finish in the race. "That is our future," McElrath said. "Put those names in the bank because they're our future blue chip investment." The Rangers host the Suburban East Conference meet today, Thursday, at Falcon Ridge golf course. McElrath says the team's goal is to finish fourth behind Stillwater, Roseville and Mounds View, the "running dynasties." "We'll need to beat White Bear Lake and Park (Cottage Grove)," McElrath said. "It'll be a dog fight for fourth place." |
