Joe Drennan The Forest Lake High School girls swimming and diving team lost to Hastings 104-77 last Thursday. ìEveryone swam very well,î rangers head coach Rochelle McKenzie said. The 200-yard medley team of Mary Walters, Nicole Duff, Amanda Nelson and Margaret Mattison took second with a time of 2:06. Nelson placed second in the 50-yard freestyle as well with a time of 25.96. The Rangers had two section qualifiers in the meet against Hastings. Rachel Merrierís fifth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.67 and Heidi Merrierís 1:21.70, fourth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke qualified the girls for the section meet. Other quality swims against Hastings included Nelsonís second place finish in the 100-yard fly with a time of 1:01.49 and Walterís second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.37. Last Tuesday the Rangers took on Chisago Lakes in a non-conference meet that Chisago Lakes won 105-81. ìWe had some pretty good swims,î McKenzie said. ìWe tried out some swimmers in different events and we had a lot of fun. There were a few surprises and we found a couple of new events for some girls.î Walters, Duff, Carrie Peterson and Nelson placed first in the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:06.57. In their first time swimming the events, Nelson took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.57 and Walters placed fourth in the same event with a time of 2:16.26. Both girls qualified for sections with their times. Allison Garrity took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:42.11, then the team of Walters, Peterson, Cassie Gerlach and Nelson took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:51.50. Garrity took first in the 100-yard backstroke as well with her time of 1:12.84. Joelle Waskey placed second right behind Garrity with a time of 1:13.85. The Rangers next meet is tonight, Thursday, when they host Woodbury at 6 p.m. |
