Lendtís Pumpkin Patch open daily through Halloween

For many families, making the trek to Lendtís Pumpkin Patch is an annual family tradition.

The family farm, with three generations of Lendts and Wittners contributing to the harvest, is open for pumpkin picking through the Halloween season.

Val Wittner, who took over the business full time from her dad, Roy Lendt, last year said the pumpkin patch is the perfect venue for a day of family fun.

Before becoming the prime pumpkin proprietor Wittner had been a 50/50 partner with her dad for more than a decade and had been involved with the farm since she was a teenager.

In her years on the farm she had gotten used to seeing a lot of familiar faces.

They have become her friends, who come for a visit each autumn.

ìItís a time for families to be families,î Wittner said. ìGo out and enjoy your children. Kids are cool.î

And it affordable family fun, too.

When coming out to Lendtís folks can grab a pumpkin wagon and head out to the fields.

Pick-your-own pumpkins are just $2 each.

ìFor a family of four thatís a day of fun for just 8 bucks,î Wittner said.

There are plenty to choose from as the farm features more than 40 acres of fallís fruit.

Driving on CR-22 in Wyoming Township Lendtís is a sight to be seen, day and night.

The property features a large Halloween display.

ìIím selling pumpkins,î she said. ìWhen youíre here you should be having a good time with your family,î she said.

More than pumpkins

More than a place to pick a perfect pumpkin, Lendtís features a large retail area.

Pre-picked pumpkins in a variety of sizes are available along with a wide variety of fall favorites such as pumpkins for pie baking, squash, gourds, Indian corn, hay, straw and pumpkins hand painted by Wittnerís daughter, Andrea Jambor.

A retail area also features holiday-themed merchandise.

A good crop

When Wittner first started hearing news of a bad pumpkins crop, she was concerned. She wasnít sure what sheíd get.

Come harvest, Wittner was pleasantly surprised.

ìI went, wow, I got a pretty good crop,î she said. ìWe have nice size pumpkins, this year went very well.î

What may have helped is the honeybees which make their home in the back of the field.

ìItís just to help nature along,î Wittner said.
