County approves I-35WE Coalition

The Washington County Board on Sept. 28 OKíd a joint powers agreement to formalize the I-35WE Coalition. The coalition is comprised of the cities of Hugo, Lino Lakes, Centerville and Forest Lake, Columbus Township, and Anoka and Washington counties. The joint powers agreement was needed to formalize the group and to allow it to maintain its focus on providing benefit to the traveling public and promoting the stewardship of the public infrastructure and future land use development. Population growth and corresponding transportation issues in the northeast metro area require ongoing study by multiple communities to continue pursing solutions to transportation and land use needs. The coalition has identified three goals: develop a cohesive transportation system in this area; balance land use and the transportation system; and, identify, develop, and support regional transportation system improvements.
