Staff WriterEric Stene, 33, of St. Francis, was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle at approximately 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 14500 block of Lake Dr.
Stene pulled over to help Renee Johansen of Forest Lake remove a deer carcass from the road. Johansen had hit the deer with her car but was uninjured in the accident.
After removing the carcass from the road, Stene was struck by Noah LaValle of Columbus Township. LaValle was traveling northbound on Lake Dr. at the time. LaValle was uninjured in the accident.
Capt. Bob Aldrich of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said no charges have been filed and it is unlikely that any will be.
"At this point they'll take voluntary blood samples from the driver, but there are no indications that they will show anything," Capt. Aldrich said. "This is just a standard procedure and it will help the parties involved get through this."
