Posted: 10/6/04 Rangers blast Park, lose 4-3 to Woodbury
Joe Drennan The Forest Lake High School girls tennis team had no problem beating Park (Cottage Grove) last Tuesday, but then fell to Woodbury in a close 4-3 loss. The Rangers shut out Park (Cottage Grove) 7-0 as five of the seven matches were won in straight sets. The second doubles team of Jenny Coozenooy and Maddy Raasch battled three sets, winning 6-1, 6-7, 6-4. In singles play Katie Anderson won her match in one set as she was ahead 5-0 before her opponent had to forfeit due to injury. ìWe played an excellent match at every position,î Rangers head coach Greg Patchin said. When the Rangers faced Woodbury last Thursday, the Rangers won two of the four singles matches. Katie Anderson won her match 6-2, 6-0 and Hilary Framke won 6-1, 6-2. Woodbury went on to win two of the three doubles matches, giving them a 4-3 victory. Alexa Nelson and Maddy Raasch recorded the only Rangers victory in doubles play with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. ìThe match against Woodbury was definitely two matches in itself,î Patchin said. ìThe first portion with the Rangers leading 3-2 and leading in the final two matches, then the second part after an hour rain delay that led to the downfall at both the fourth singles and third doubles. I feel that without the rain we would have won both matches and claimed a share of third place in the conference.î |
