The annual Bethel University, Benson Great Hall Concert will have some exciting wrinkles in the program this year.

Not only will the Symphonic Winds and Concert Choir perform as they usually have on this concert, but the two groups will be assisted by a Select Elementary Choir from Forest View Elementary directed by Terry Burk and also The Bells of Faith from Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake.

This yearís concert also will include special solos by Kevin Burk and Markus Hahn from the Symphonic Winds.

These two students will display their musical and technical expertise as part of the Symphonic Winds program. While playing their solos, Burk and Hahn will be accompanied by the Symphonic Wind members. Burk was the winner of the Minnesota Youth Symphony Concerto Contest and performed his solo at Orchestra Hall with the Minnesota Youth Symphony. He will perform one movement of his winning selection during the concert.

Hahn will solo on ìA Tribute To Sax,î which was written by Alain Crepin. He has been a member of the Symphonic Winds for three years and has produced scores at State-Region Music Contests.

Members of the Faith Lutheran Church Bell Choir will join both the Symphonic Winds and Concert Choir during their performances as well as playing during the Finale.

A Select Elementary Choir from Forest View Elementary will perform with the Concert Choir on a selection entitled, ìHope For Resolution.î

This selection was written by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory as a reflection on our respect for divergent musical styles and points us toward our innate potential for peaceful coexistence.

This selection incorporates two different styles of music from plain chant to a song from South Africa.

The Bethel Concert has become an event that is anticipated not only by the performers, but the people in attendance. Last yearís attendance was more than 1000 people. Audience members keep returning on a yearly basis for this much anticipated concert.

The concert is held at the Benson Great Hall on the campus of Bethel University and Seminary. This yearís concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 15.

Immediately after the concert, there will be a reception in the Community Life Center Loggia, right off the lobby of the concert hall. This yearís reception is sponsored by Novak Pontiac and GM Motors; The Music Connection and Polaris Industries, Inc.

The Symphonic Winds and Concert Choir members are appreciative of these community businesses taking part in helping sponsor this event.

Tickets are available from the members of the Symphonic Winds and Concert Choir. They are also available at The Yellow Bus and The Music Connection. The prices for the tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens.
