Over half way home. Thatís where the Community Scholarship Foundation board stands on its 2005 fund-raising goal.
At the end of March, the non-profit foundation reported it has secured $26,000 in donations for its 2005 scholarship program.
CSF has set a goal of $50,000 for the current Forest Lake High School graduating class, former graduates now in college who apply for help and other residents of the school district who qualify for aid.
The efforts of the CSF board have received a big boost from former scholarship winners in more than one way.
Two of the current board members are former scholarship recipients who graduated Forest Lake High School.
Fran Miron, a Hugo dairy farmer and mayor in that city, earned a scholarship following his 1972 graduation. He joined the CSF board this year.
Jim Friend, Wyoming, a 1981 graduate, was a CSF scholarship winner. He is a longtime member of the CSF board and an officer at Mainstreet Bank, Forest Lake.
Other former scholarship recipients are donating funds to the drive. Through the end of March, some $1000 in donations from former scholarship winners had been received.
Since 1973, the CSF has provided over $500,000 in scholarships to residents of the Forest Lake Area School Districts. Funds are raised through contributions from businesses, civic organizations, clubs, trust funds and individuals who believe in the importance of the scholarship program.
