The season is still young, but the Forest Lake High School boys golf team is already looking like theyíre in mid-season form after finishing fifth in a conference match, then tying for third in a 21 team match at Bunker Hills and finally winning the Forest Lake Invitational on Monday.

ìWe had a good week,î Rangers head coach John Buck said.

The Rangers started the weekís play last Wednesday at a Suburban East Conference match at Woodburyís home course. The Rangers placed fifth as a team, but were only two strokes out of second place.

There was no standout player for the Rangers at Woodbury as Noah Lawson, Jacob Svenkeson, Brad Lange and Mark Moberg all shot scores of 39. Two other golfers shot scores of 40.

ìWe were certainly consistent,î Buck said. ìWe needed a couple extra strokes though.î

At this point in the SEC season, the Rangers are in third place with 10 points behind Roseville who has 11 and Woodbury who has 101?2.

Last Thursday the Rangers competed in a 21 team match at Bunker Hills where they tied for third place with White Bear Lake at Totino Grace, but were only one stroke out of second place and six out of first.

At Bunker Hills Kyle Lewis had the lowest score for the Rangers with a 76 on 18 holes. Moberg was not far behind Lewis as he shot a 78, Lawson an 80 and Lange an 84.

Monday the Rangers hosted the Forest Lake Invitational at Tanners Brook Golf Course and being the gracious host that they are, they won their own tournament, edging out Totino Grace in a tie breaker. Both teams had even scores after tallying up the top four golfers scores so the tie breaker went to the fifth golfer and the Rangers won.

Svenkeson was the medalist with a score of 74 and Moberg placed third with his score of 76. Lawson and Adam Svenkeson both shot 82s to round out the top four. The most important score for the Rangers came from Lange though who shot an 83 and helped the Rangers secure first place.

ìIíve been preaching to the guys that one stroke here and one stroke there can mean all the difference,î Buck said. ìEvery shot is important and this proved it.î

The Rangers next match is today, Thursday, at River Oaks at 2 p.m.
