Last season the Forest Lake High School softball team won two games all year. This week the Rangers won two games as they placed third in the Richfield Invitational.

The Rangers started the tournament off with a come-from-behind victory over the Academy of Holy Angels. AHA was ahead 4-0 going into the sixth inning, but the Rangers scored two runs, then in the bottom of the seventh Sarah Ditbrenner drove in the winning run, making the final score 5-4 in favor of the Rangers.

The Rangers then played Bloomington Jefferson who got ahead of the Rangers early.

ìThey (Bloomington Jefferson) have a good team with a good pitching and catching duo,î Rangers head coach Angie Berg said. ìThey struck out a lot of our batters.î

The Rangers mounted another sixth inning comeback, but fell short and lost the game 4-2.

In the third place game the Rangers squared off against Apple Valley. The Rangers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and the only run Apple Valley was able to produce came off an error in the fourth inning. Rangers pitcher Jess Griffith earned the victory.

ìJess pitched all three games for us,î Berg said. ìIt was cold out so her arm seemed to be fine and we let her go.î

The Rangers returned to conference play on Monday where Mounds View had a big sixth inning enroute to an 8-1 win over the Rangers.

ìIn the bottom of the fifth inning they (Mounds View) started hitting well and we made a few errors,î Berg said.

The weeks play puts the Rangers season record at 3-5.

ìWe have improved upon last yearís record but I still have high expectations,î Berg said.

The Rangers next game is Saturday at the Edina Tournament.
