Tennis team takes 3rd at Maguire Invite, blanks North Branch

It may have been cold and windy Saturday at the Maguire Invitational at Stillwater, but the Forest Lake High School boys tennis team fared the elements to take third place with Luke Odegaard taking first overall in singles play.

The Rangers finished behind Stillwater who had 22 points and Apple Valley who had 17. The Rangers finished with 16 points ahead of Providence Academy, Virginia, Blue Earth, St. Paul Central and Hill-Murray.

Odegaard took first individually with Dan Cromwell, Jeff Kohler placing fifth and Chris Sobieck placing seventh. In doubles play Rob Gavanda and Sam Steiner placed first, Kling and Peterson fifth and Ted Steiner and Chris Albee fifth as well.

ìWe had excellent team play considering the conditions,î Rangers head coach Greg Patchin said.

Monday the Rangers had no trouble defeaating visiting North Branch. The Rangers won all seven matches, blanking North Branch 7-0.

The Rangers next match is today, Thursday, when they host Hastings at 4 p.m.
