A student found with a knife at Century Junior High School in Forest Lake is being investigated regarding allegations the student threatened other students at Century.
Chief of Police Clark Quiring said the matter is a focus for officers following the March 29 incident reported to police by school officials. The female student was found with a small knife in a sweater pocket after other students reported the matter to school officials, Quiring said.
ìAt this point we are not sure there was ever a threat to other students,î Quiring said. ìWe are still investigating.î
Quiring said the matter evolved after the student was apparently teased by other students regarding her musical likes.
The chief said police have yet to substantiate the existence of a list of names of students who were possible threat subjects.
Quiring said officers have been in contact with the youthís parents who live in the school district.
Under school district discipline policies, the student has been removed from school and is subject to additional school penalties.
ISD831 officials issued this statement: ìRecently officials in the Forest Lake Area School District were made aware that a student was reported to have made a threat to injure other students at Century Junior High. The district and school administration take any reports of such a threat very seriously and have taken a number of steps to assure that Century Junior High continues to provide a safe learning environment for all students.
ìThe district is working closely with law enforcement authorities regarding this incident. School district legal counsel has been retained to investigate these threats and will advise the district regarding appropriate action. We have taken, and will continue to take, precautions to assure students are safe in the building.î
Because of data practices rules, a spokesperson said the district could not comment on the status of the student or if she has been removed from school or would face other sanctions.
